Description : The Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach will coordinate and oversee the development of a men’s lacrosse program. The Head Coach will be responsible for leading all aspects of the men’s lacrosse program, including recruiting and retaining student-athletes, developing and implementing strategic game plans, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting the academic success and personal growth of student-athletes. This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Working in the primary capacity of an educator, the head coach enhances the student experience and satisfaction as well as raise the College’s image and reputation through building and maintaining a competitive athletic program. This position works to improve the student’s personal and teamwork skills and provide education, guidance and encouragement. This position is under the supervision of the Executive Director of Athletics, and will make it a priority to provide guidance, ongoing assessment, and encouragement to players and staff. The head coach is expected to serve as a visible and engaged ambassador for the men’s lacrosse program, representing Hartwick College at community events, alumni gatherings, and fundraising activities to cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and other supporters to generate financial support for the men’s lacrosse program.

Responsibilities : - Oversee and lead the operations of a collegiate athletic team, including instructing scholar-athletes on the rules, fundamentals, regulations, equipment, strategies and techniques of the sport by designing instructions for individual student-athletes and team needs. Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and track athletic performance of students. - Responsible for the administrative functions of the athletic program. This includes recruitment and retention of qualified students in accordance with College standards. Administrative paperwork (budget protocol, travel expenses, compliance obligations, etc.) and general office work including emails and participating in department staff meetings. - Demonstrate commitment to excellence, innovation and diversity by building healthy relationships with the students, responding to their concerns, advising students both personally and academically to contribute to their personal growth and academic success. - Head coaches are expected to retain, at a minimum, the same percentage of student-athletes as non-athletes as calculated for the institution’s overall retention percentage by gender (minus those who are athletes). In addition, coaches are expected to utilize positive retention efforts in their dealings with student-athletes. This is inclusive of knowing where, when and to whom to send athletes who have exhibited signs of concern, tracking of athlete’s reasons and decisions, and having regular involvement at the team level with the Center for Student Success (CSS). - Additional responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director of Athletics, including teaching PHED skill courses and PE coaching courses. - Community Service. - Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituents. - Expected to comply with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational regulations. - As a representative of the College, expected to comport oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus. No inappropriate relationships with students. - Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
