Description

Hampden-Sydney College is accepting applications for a Head Swim Coach. Reporting to the Athletics Director, the Head Swim Coach supports the mission of the College by leading and managing all aspects of the College’s swim program, developing, and executing effective coaching strategies, recruiting talented athletes, overseeing team practices and games, fostering a positive team culture, and ensuring the overall success and growth of the program. Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.

Duties

Coordinates the overall swim program to ensure the proper teaching and coaching of the sport within the policies of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and Hampden-Sydney College. Supervises the program to include recruiting, budget, facilities, and the general welfare of student-athletes participating in swimming.

Develops comprehensive and innovative coaching strategies that enhance the team's performance and competitive edge. Plans, organizes, and leads effective practice sessions to improve players' skills, game understanding, and physical conditioning. Provides personalized coaching to players, helping them reach their maximum potential and contributing to their individual growth as athletes.

Identifies and recruits talented student-athletes who align with the program's values and contribute to the team's success. Develops and maintains relationships with high school coaches, AAU programs, and other sources to identify and attract top prospects. Manages the recruitment process, including evaluating prospects, conducting campus visits, and coordinating with admissions offices.

Develops plans that leverage the team members strengths and exploit opponents' weaknesses. Analyzes meet footage and provides constructive feedback to swimmers to enhance their understanding of competition situations. Adjusts strategies in real-time during meets based on competition.

Monitors and supports swimmers’ academic progress, promoting a balance between athletics and academics. Collaborates with academic advisors to ensure players are meeting their educational goals.

Represents the College swim program at media events, alumni gatherings, and community activities. Builds and maintains positive relationships with alumni, donors, fans, and the local community. Collaborates with various departments on fundraising, community engagement, and promotional activities.

Ensures compliance with all NCAA and ODAC rules, regulations, and institutional policies. Manages team budgets, travel arrangements, and other administrative responsibilities.

Coordinates swim team publicity with the College Sports Information Office. Serves as a Liaison for all special programs using the Kirby Fieldhouse. Assist athletic director with the swim schedule. Serves on National, ODAC and College committees as appointed. Attends all ODAC and National swim meetings.

Monitors and manage the department budgets, resources, and expenditures effectively.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree, with minimum of 3 years’ prior coaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
