Job Description:

APPOINTMENT:  August 2025

RESPONSIBILITIES: The track and field head coach is responsible for leading all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division I track and field program including, but not limited to: budget management, recruiting, fundraising, supervision of staff, a commitment to student-athlete health and welfare, and directing skill instruction and development. The successful candidate must be fully committed to all NCAA, The Ohio Valley Conference, and Western Illinois University Athletics Department policies and procedures, and will be expected to work cooperatively with all constituencies and campus units.

RANK & SALARY: $57,734 - $66,394 per year, commensurate with experience.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit academically and athletically prepared intercollegiate student-athletes.
• Record of competitive success in coaching intercollegiate track and field.
• Proven competencies in administrative and public relations abilities.
• Ability to establish good rapport and working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staffs, administration, university personnel, and the general public.
• Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of and proven record of adherence to all NCAA academic and compliance rules and regulations. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree.
• Division I coaching experience. 

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

Academics

More than 61 undergraduate degree programs, 41 graduate programs, two doctoral programs and 16 post-baccaulaureate certificate programs prepare students for a successful career after graduation.

Student Resources

More than 200 student organizations at Western provide social, academic, recreation, athletics, service, academic, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more.

WIU Intercollegiate Athletics

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. All varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Ohio Valley Conference.
