Job Description:
To provide leadership, organization and supervision of the women's cross country, women's indoor track and field, and women's outdoor track and field programs. The head coach will organize the programs in a manner that supports the mission of Fitchburg State University and the philosophy of the Department of Athletics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Develop knowledge of and abide by current NCAA, MASCAC, or other affiliated conferences, rules and regulations regarding recruiting, eligibility and sport-specific rules concerning practice and playing seasons.
Maintain knowledge of current sport rules and changes to those rules as they occur.
Develop and manage a recruiting plan that meets new student enrollment goals. Correspond with high school coaches, contact prospective student-athletes, evaluate talent and meet with prospective students as available. Maintain statistics on contacts and evaluations.
Organize and direct the day-to-day operations of the athletic teams, including teaching skills and strategies for the specific sport during practices and meets in the traditional and non-traditional seasons.
Attend all meets. Travel with the team to all away meets or assign a member of staff to travel with the team. Drive team vehicles to away contests as required.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
Submit proposed practice schedule to Head Athletic Trainer and communicate any requests for schedule changes.
Ensure minimum roster size is met and prepare a list of prospective participants for the Compliance Officer for eligibility review. Review eligibility rules with all participants.
Conduct fundraising projects as desired in compliance with all regulations of the department and the Booster Club.
Review transportation and meal arrangements prior to season and request changes to Assistant Athletic Director both prior to and during season.
Confer with the Athletic Trainer regarding the status of injured athletes.
Assume supervisory control over all phases of team's participation. Create a safe and positive environment for student-athletes. Emphasize and enforce the student-athlete code of conduct and any team rules in a firm and equitable manner. Conduct oneself in an ethical manner during practices and contests and demand appropriate behavior from all team personnel.
Attend all department meetings and functions as requested. Support all department programs as available.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree with equivalent work experience.
At least three years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
Demonstrated recruiting experience.
Commitment to academic success and student-athlete well being.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
College playing and coaching experience in the sport applying for.
Demonstrated understanding of the NCAA, specific sport rules and regulations.
Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy, recruiting, rules and regulations.
Athletic team fundraising experience.
Additional Information:

Salary: Stipend - $9,000 for cross country and $11,000 for track and field
