Barton College, an NCAA Division II program in Wilson, NC, is seeking a Head Women’s Soccer Coach to oversee the administration of the women’s soccer program. It is his/her responsibility to foster a positive experience for student-athletes and do so within the missions of Barton College, the Division of Athletics, Conference Carolinas, and the NCAA.

Essential Functions:

• To conduct the women’s soccer program according to all College, Conference Carolinas, and NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards for financial aid, eligibility, and recruiting.
• To prepare and operate within the assigned budget and follow purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the College.
• To successfully pass the yearly NCAA Division II certification exam.
• To schedule, conduct, and supervise all team practice sessions and complete game schedules with confirmed travel arrangements, as approved by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.
• To develop and implement game strategies that maximize competitive opportunities.
• To recruit quality student-athletes while meeting roster and retention goals.
• To hire, develop and supervise assistant coaches and managers.
• To monitor and maximize available scholarship monies within College and NCAA policy.
• To assist with student-athlete eligibility certification and completion of forms and medical exams and provide NCAA reports to the Compliance Office as required, report any NCAA rules violations, injuries or accidents involving student-athletes, and misconduct of student- athletes.
• To engage and collaborate with students, parents, alumni, faculty/staff, and administration, and to engage in public relations activities to promote Barton College and the women’s soccer program.

• To perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics. This is a general description for all head coaches. These distinct areas of assignment may be advertised in recruiting ads/documents separate from the job description as needed.

Work Environment: The work environment is variable depending on athletic event settings specific to the sport managed. Internal office work is also required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population, event attendees and activities involved. The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may be exposed to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a physically active role requiring the employee to have the ability to teach proper techniques to students and have the requisite skills needed for athletic participation. Therefore, the physical abilities required include: the ability to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand, sit, talk, hear, using hands for fine manipulation, to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may also have to climb stairs or ladders and specific vision requirements include the ability to see up close, distantly, adjust his/her focus and have adequate peripheral vision for the position.

Desired Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
• Three years of NCAA coaching experience and collegiate playing experience preferred.
• Must be willing to obtain certifications in CPR/First Aid and to obtain other certifications as needed.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver’s license.
• Experience and knowledge of soccer training with the ability to improve individual techniques/skills and game strategy.
• Demonstrated proficiency in recruiting qualified student-athletes.
• Knowledge of NCAA regulations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• High ethical standards and ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
