Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Fairmont State University invites applications for the founding Head Women’s Wrestling Coach, an exciting opportunity to build and lead a brand-new program from the ground up. This position will provide visionary leadership, strategic planning, and operational oversight as the University launches its Women’s Wrestling program and establishes a strong and competitive presence in collegiate athletics.
Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics and working in collaboration with the Director of Wrestling, the Head Women’s Wrestling Coach will oversee all aspects of the Fairmont State University Women’s Wrestling program at the NCAA Division II level. Responsibilities include recruiting, coaching, student-athlete development, program administration, and ensuring full compliance with NCAA, Mountain East Conference (MEC), and Fairmont State University policies and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates commitment to the missions/visions of both Fairmont State and the Athletic Department; fosters the academic development of student athletes; and ensures that the student athletes, coaching staff, and programs present a positive image of Fairmont State in all aspects.
Recruits/trains/coaches the student athletes of the women’s wrestling program.
Maintains thorough/continuing familiarity/compliance with the constitution/bylaws/ interpretations of NCAA II, MEC, and Fairmont State policies, regulations and rules pertaining to the conduct/administration of the women’s wrestling program.
Oversees the process/conduct of/actively participates in recruiting student athletes, including developing a positive working relationship with university faculty/staff to assist in the recruiting process.
Schedules games/contests in coordination with the Director of Wrestling and the approval of the Athletic Director.
Oversees the management/maintenance of all equipment and facilities associated with the wrestling programs.
Ensures the program’s compliance with all established State and institutional operation procurement procedures.
Assists and gives input into the development of the wrestling budget; ensures adherence to and monitoring of the budget.
Supervises/manages personnel assigned to the wrestling program, including recruitment and selection; assigning/mentoring/monitoring work assignments; appropriate and prompt staff discipline and corrective measures; resolving personnel issues promptly and positively; and all aspects of performance management.
Expands and enhances the camps programs, including summer camps, clinics, or special-target-population camps.
In collaboration with Athletic Director and the Director of Wrestling, will develop, implement, and maintain a general fundraising program as well as to generate additional funds for program support, ensuring that the plan/programs/events complement and do not compete with already established programs and events in the Athletics Department and at the University.
Oversees the organization, oversight, and implementation of all wrestling off-season, pre-season and in-season strength training, conditioning, and agility programs in coordination with the strength and conditioning coach.
Monitors the academic progress of all student athletes in the women’s wrestling program.
Communicates orally/in writing with media and outside agencies per established guidelines and in coordination with the Fairmont State Director of Athletic Communication.
Conducts coaches’ preparation/planning meetings and trains/mentors assigned coaching staff in proper and effective coaching techniques; attends all other meetings as appropriate/as assigned.
Establishes/ensures communication of and compliance with rules regarding student-athlete conduct, appearance, and behavior.
Supports other sports programs/clubs, intramural programs and other functions of the University and Athletic Department, regarding the scheduling of facilities and use of available resources.
Works collaboratively with all support offices across the institution who support the women’s wresting program.
Performs related duties as needed, as appropriate and as assigned.
Minimum Required Education
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid Driver’s License
Must have and maintain current approved NCAA coach’s module certification
Must have Red Cross-approved CPR and First Aid certifications.

Minimum Required Qualifications
A minimum of two (2) years of coaching experience as an assistant coach or higher at the collegiate level or higher.
Proven coaching and mentoring skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and bylaws, particularly regarding issues of compliance.
Proven organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines that may be imposed due to game, competition, or travel implications.
Proven leadership skills.
Solid and effective communications skills that promote empathetic and persuasive communication with students, parents, colleagues, and sponsors.
The ability to maintain self-composure and a professional and controlled demeanor during periods of stress.
Proven flexibility and the adaptability to adjust to changing situations and events with professionalism, calmness, and dignity.
Ability to meet University, MEC, and NCAA recordkeeping and compliance guidelines and requirements.
Proven history of serving as a positive role model for student athletes.
Required Quals Summary
