Description

The Linebackers Coach is responsible for coaching and developing the linebacker unit, focusing on improving individual player skills, enhancing overall team defense, and contributing to the defensive game strategy. This position requires strong knowledge of defensive schemes, a commitment to developing athletes both mentally and physically, and the ability to mentor players to perform at their highest potential.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and implement coaching techniques to enhance the skills of linebackers, including tackling, coverage techniques, blitzing, and reading offenses.
  • Conduct position-specific drills to improve fundamental skills such as footwork, awareness, hand placement, and reaction time.
  • Provide individual feedback on player performance, assessing strengths and areas for improvement and developing personalized growth plans.
  • Collaborate with the defensive coordinator to develop defensive game plans, ensuring linebackers understand their roles in both run defense and pass coverage.
  • Analyze opposing teams’ offensive schemes to identify tendencies, and ensure linebackers are prepared to exploit those weaknesses.
  • Review game film to analyze the performance of linebackers, highlighting areas for improvement and providing feedback.
  • Break down film of opposing offenses to study their plays and tendencies, preparing linebackers for specific situations they may encounter during games.
  • Attend recruiting events, evaluate talent, and establish connections with potential recruits.
  • Work closely with other position coaches, including the defensive coordinator, defensive backs, and defensive line coaches to ensure the defensive scheme is cohesive.
