Performs all laundry duties associated with the operation of the Physical Education and Athletics Department.  Distributes apparel and other associated items to student-athletes, coaches and staff.  Performs basic cleaning duties associated with the assignment of lockers, cubbies and locks for student-athletes, coaches, staff and patrons.  Performs record keeping associated with the management of the Equipment and Locker Rooms.

Responsibilities:

• Cares for the apparel and related items associated with the varsity athletic teams (practice clothing, game uniforms, warm-ups, travel bags, laundry bags, etc.) as well as coach/staff game and workout apparel, intramural pinnies and referee shirts, event staff shirts, VCA shirts, Athletic Aide shirts, etc.;  collects, washes, dries, folds, stores, etc.

Performs all laundry duties associated with the operation of the Physical Education and Athletics Department.  Distributes apparel and other associated items to student-athletes, coaches and staff.  Performs basic cleaning duties associated with the assignment of lockers, cubbies and locks for student-athletes, coaches, staff and patrons.  Performs record keeping associated with the management of the Equipment and Locker Rooms.

Responsibilities:

• Cares for the apparel and related items associated with the varsity athletic teams (practice clothing, game uniforms, warm-ups, travel bags, laundry bags, etc.) as well as coach/staff game and workout apparel, intramural pinnies and referee shirts, event staff shirts, VCA shirts, Athletic Aide shirts, etc.;  collects, washes, dries, folds, stores, etc.

• Cares for all towels associated with the operation of the Physical Education and Athletics Department; washes, dries, folds, stores, transports, etc.

• Collects and distributes apparel to varsity athletic teams via the cubby locker system, by handing out laundry bags, or bringing them to specific locker rooms as directed.

• Issues and records locker combinations and locker numbers to student- athletes, coaches and staff; creates lock combination brass tags.  Records locker combinations and locker numbers for patrons; creates lock combination brass tags.

• Cleans out all lockers within the Physical Education and Athletics Department (student-athlete, coach, staff and patron lockers) as requested; this includes bagging, labeling and storing items left in lockers as well as cleaning out the locker itself.

• Issues towels, locks and related items to visiting athletic teams; collects, washes, dries, folds, and transports visiting team practice and game gear as requested.

• Cares for shower curtains in all locker room areas – removes, washes, dries, folds, stores, and hangs shower curtains.

• Maintains consistent and accurate records – this includes records of items issued and received, inventory records, and locker, cubby and lock assignment records.

• Performs basic daily care of the laundry equipment – cleans lint traps, washes machines inside and out, changes filters, dusts behind machines, cleans drains, etc.  Changes out large, heavy laundry detergent barrels as needed.

• Maintains an organized system of storage within the Equipment Rooms and related storage areas.

• Communicates needs in terms of maintaining adequate apparel, towel and shower curtain inventories, laundry chemicals supplies, laundry equipment problems, locker maintenance issues, etc.

• Properly secures the Equipment Room and related storage areas when not present.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Competencies:

• Must be able to read and write.

• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

• Must be able to perform basic record keeping.

• Must be capable of communicating effectively with supervisor, students, staff, faculty and the public.

• Strong verbal and written communication required.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments concurrently required. 

Additional Responsibilities

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

• High School Education or equivalent required.

Experience:

• A minimum of two years of experience in Athletic Equipment Room or Fitness Center required.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

• Candidate should be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.  

• Have strong time management skills, oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills.  

• Must be able to perform basic record keeping.

• Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Knowledge of athletic equipment care and maintenance techniques.  

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• This position will work from 5:30 am – 2:00 pm (9 am – 5:30 pm during summers and interims).

• Must be physically able to perform duties involving standing for long periods of time, walking quickly and repetitively in all weather conditions between buildings, bending,  reaching, lifting overhead up to 25 lbs., climbing step stools, step ladders and stairs, etc.

• Must be capable of working within a laundry room setting throughout the day which involves working in high room temperatures, consistent laundry machine noise, exposure to laundry chemicals, exposure to dust, etc.

• Significant overtime is required (especially on weekends).

Pay Range:

• $16.92 hourly rate
