Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Athletics Mental Performance Consultant will provide mental performance services to student-athletes and coaches within the UNCW Athletic Department. This role supports the holistic development of student-athletes by enhancing mental skills for performance, resilience, and well-being. The Mental Performance Consultant will collaborate with Athletic Department staff to foster a culture of mental wellness and peak performance.

• Provide individual and team mental performance services.
• Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as confidence, focus, motivation, self-talk, visualization, goal setting, and stress management.
• Collaborate with athletic trainers, coaches, and sports performance staff to integrate mental performance strategies.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation in accordance with ethical standards.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to student-athlete support initiatives.
• Refer student-athletes to licensed mental health professionals when clinical issues arise.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in sport and performance psychology, exercise psychology, or related field. 
• Experience working with collegiate student-athletes or in high-performance environments.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. 

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Experience with athletic populations and inclusive practices.
• Familiarity with NCAA policies and collegiate athletic culture.
