The Department of Athletics seeks applicants for the position of Physical Therapist, with a target start date of January 5, 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated clinician to lead rehabilitation efforts for Wingate Athletics. The Physical Therapist will work alongside a dynamic rehabilitation team of 14+ athletic trainers to meet NCAA standards to ensure high quality healthcare for student athletes following injury or surgery. This position will provide direct patient care to student athletes and assist with return-to-play determinations. This individual will work closely with the Athletic Director, lead athletic trainer, coaches, and team physicians. This role provides a unique leadership opportunity to develop rehabilitation programming and clinical services for all athletic teams and deliver student-athlete-centered healthcare while contributing to the continued excellence of Wingate’s multiple sports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative:
Provide oversight of the rehabilitation team to ensure efficient and well-rehearsed delivery of physical rehabilitative care and return-to-play programming for student athletes
Manage the creation and maintenance of rehabilitation philosophies, frameworks, and return to play pathways for a variety of athletes
Ensure compliance with all NCAA and SAC requirements for health and safety legislation and regulations that impact student athletes
Work with the Athletic Director and other University administrators to develop and maintain strategic partnerships with area providers and external medical services
Provide billing oversight to ensure compliance and maximize revenue for the rehabilitation team
Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Clinical:
Provide evidenced-based interventions that optimize the physical and psychosocial welfare of the individual student-athlete
Ability to work alongside providers of different disciplines in a team setting to optimize patient care and outcomes
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide variety of sports related, post-operative, and chronic diagnoses, including triage and referral to appropriate providers
Develop, adopt, and implement rehabilitation pathway strategies for returning to high-level athletic performance
Manage communication with lead athletic trainer regarding collaborative rehabilitation and return to performance support services
Maintains accurate and timely patient documentation and billing practices for the rehabilitation team, ensuring compliance with rehabilitation regulations
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist in North Carolina
Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program (DPT) program
Board-certified clinical specialization (ABPTS) in sports (SCS) or orthopedic (OCS) physical therapy
Experience with working on multi-disciplinary rehabilitation teams and/or clinical experience with university, Olympic, or professional-level athletes
CPR and BLS certification
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical experience with university, Olympic, or professional-level athletes
Advanced training or certification in concussion management and dry needling
Certification in Strength and Conditioning (CSCS or similar) and/or sports performance
Knowledge of NCAA and SAC standards for medical care for collegiate student-athletes
