STATEMENT

DUTIES
: Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, the Associate Athletic Trainer assists in the provision of health, safety, injury prevention, injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, referrals and in providing follow-up care to our intercollegiate student-athletes. Serve as part of the leadership team within sports medicine and sports performance.

RECEIVED
: Reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Sports Performance, receives direction from designated Team Physician and Director of Athletics.

EXERCISED
: Supervises subordinate professional personnel assigned to area, as well as athletic training interns under the rules, regulations, and procedures set forth by the student’s education program, their accrediting agency, and the athletic training department.

LEADERSHIP
:
· Coordinate referrals for outside physicians and other providers in collaboration with the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.
· Collaborate with the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in establishing fair and equitable medical coverage schedules for the Athletic Training-Sports Medicine Department staff.
· Research and submit grant opportunities to provide relevant programming for health and safety to student-athletes and staff.
· Make recommendations for improvements to the Athletic Training-Sports Medicine and Sports Performance Programs for the health, safety and wellbeing of the student athletes.
· Make recommendations regarding the review and acquisition of the Department Injury tracking/
EMR
software and assume a leadership role in its implementation and management.
· Leadership role in the development and coordination of learning opportunities and professional development for staff regarding current topics in Sports Medicine and Performance.
· Leadership role in the annual development and review of sports medicine and performance policy, procedure, and process.
· Direct and oversee the development of social media posts with relevant topics and content in sports medicine and sports performance for both Instagram accounts.
· Development of positions and hiring of hourly student employees to support the professional staff in the Athletic Training-Sports Medicine Department.
· Assume a leadership role in the annual medical clearance/eligibility and screening process
· Act as a mentor and resource for the Staff Assistant – Athletic Trainers
· Leadership role in annual budget review and preparation process, inventory and supply management.

· Collaborate with the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in the supervision, prevention, care, management, and disposition of injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.
· Recognize and supervise the prevention, care, management of injuries and illnesses to student-athletes, including the coverage of team practices and contests, with particular emphasis on high impact, contact and collision sports.
· Uphold established policies, rules, regulations, and procedures in the Athletic Training-Sports Medicine Department.
· Maintain appropriate documentation of all injuries and illnesses to student-athletes.
· Maintain current knowledge and skills of standards of practice in the field of Athletic Training as established by the
NATA

NCAA
,
NCSA
and other appropriate, recognized organizations, as well as completing continuing education to maintain certifications.
· Advise in the purchasing, proper use and fit of protective equipment.
· Year-round continuing education unit acquisition and professional development for the maintenance of professional certifications.

:
· Leadership-Liaison role with the Sports Performance staff with emphasis on injury trends and injury prevention.
· Collaborate with team coaches to develop injury prevention and appropriate fitness training and assessments for sport-specific demands.
· Advise in the purchasing of Strength and Conditioning Equipment and supplies.
· Other responsibilities in both areas as directed by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.

REQUIRED
MINUMUM
QUALFICATIONS
:
• Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (
NATA
-
BOC
) required.
• Must be eligible for licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Athletic Training. https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-a-license-from-the-board-of-allied-health-professionals
• Master’s Degree in related field
• Minimum of three years of experience as a
NATA

BOC
Athletic Trainer
• Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist/Coach (
NSCA
-
CSCS
or CSCCa) or eligible to sit for the examination.
• Ability to understand written and oral communication.
• Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates.2
• Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation.
PREFERRED
QUALFICATIONS
• 4-5 years’ experience as an athletic trainer at the college / university setting
