Job Title: Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach

Department: Athletic

Reports To: Vice President of Athletics

FLSA Status: Exempt (salaried)

Summary Description: The job entails managing all aspects of operating an NCAA II men’s and women’s tennis program.

Essential Functions:

• As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
• Plan and direct the season which includes the match schedule, and individual/team practices, and supervise, teach, and/or coach student-athletes during conditioning and practice sessions, dual/tournament matches, and travel situations to and from matches/tournaments
• Recruitment of prospective student-athletes both on and off campus

• Plan and direct the season which includes the match schedule, and individual/team practices, and supervise, teach, and/or coach student-athletes during conditioning and practice sessions, dual/tournament matches, and travel situations to and from matches/tournaments
• Recruitment of prospective student-athletes both on and off campus
• Schedule and manage travel arrangements (travel advances, expense reports, lodging) for competition dates
• String tennis racquets
• Purchase (requests for purchase), distribute, and maintain clothing, equipment, etc.
• Hire and supervise Graduate Assistant
• Manage the budgets (operating and restricted) responsibly.
• Direct, promote, and participate in athletic department and tennis-specific fundraising and/or promotional activities
• Supervise and promote the academic pursuits of student-athletes
• Maintain a working knowledge of NCAA and SAC rules. *All Coaches must maintain the current NCAA Recruiting Certification each year of employment
• Mentor student-athletes from a Christian perspective
• Support and promote university and community programs and/or activities
• Maintain the tennis facility in conjunction with university maintenance staff
• Seek professional growth opportunities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of budget, people, and facilities is required.

Experience:

At least one year of previous tennis coaching experience in the college setting is preferred.

Required Skills:

 Obviously specialized skills and knowledge related to teaching and coaching the game of tennis are needed. Also, specialized knowledge of how to physically condition athletes for tennis is necessary, i.e., cardio-respiratory, strength/power, flexibility, agility, nutrition, etc.
