General Summary
Serving as a member of the President’s Executive Cabinet, the Vice President for Athletics will oversee all aspects of the athletics program, consistent with institutional goals and objectives; while adhering to TAMUS, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations.

Responsibilities:
Provides strategic and visionary leadership of the Division of Athletics to create an environment that enhances student-athletes’ growth and development and the overall student-athlete experience in alignment with the University's Mission.
Directs divisional strategic planning process, establishes and drives divisional assessment and benchmarking efforts to support institutional priorities
Provides and assumes primary responsibility for the budget, policy development, staffing and planning for the division.
Oversees the administration of Athletics, while maintaining accountability for its design, operation, and evaluation, ensuring compliance with institutional, NCAA, and state and federal laws and Title IX regulations, guidelines and requirements.
Develops plans that support and enhance the university’s priority to increase overall student enrollment.
Supports and advances the university’s commitment to recruitment of the highest caliber of student-athletes, while promoting accessible and comprehensive learning and working environment, providing educational opportunities amenable to their athletic commitments, and developing them into leaders on campus and in their communities.
Leverages University resources (academic and non-academic) to support student athletes’ retention including collaboration with academic partners to identify supports to student-athletes’ success.
Develops plans to enhance the revenue-generating capacity of Athletics through the external functions of the department including fundraising, brand management, ticket sales, sponsorship, media, and marketing; Works closely with the Division of Institutional Advancement to meet strategic needs and work with alumni, and the broader West Texas A&M University community to increase financial support for WTAMU Athletics.
Develops marketing programs and initiatives to generate positive external relations.
Maintains effective working relationships with the academic community, WTAMU alumni and friends, the press, area high school coaches and administrators, the public, Lone Star Conference and NCAA
Responsible for all division-required report preparation and dissemination.

Necessary Qualifications:
Master’s degree with major in Sports Administration or related field.
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in college athletics administration.
Experience with personnel management, budget management, development, external relations and marketing.
Proven planning and assessment skills.
Recognized effectiveness as an administrator in positions of increasing responsibility in higher education
Demonstrated success in revenue generation for Athletics.
Proven record of success in improving the management, quality, operations, and customer service within a major division of an institution.
Must have high ethical standards and be able to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate strongly preferred
Previous coaching and student-athlete experience desirable.
Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations at the Division II level.
Track-record of contributing to the growth of enrollment for a Higher Education institution.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
