Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: The Vice President for Athletics (VPA) reports to the President of the University and serves as a member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team. The VPA leads all aspects of athletics at the University and is responsible for the success performance of programs, coaches, staff, and student athletes. University Athletics at Bethel University embraces the NAIA model which focuses emphasizes academics, character development, and community involvement while providing student athletes with the opportunity to compete in the sports they love.
Responsible for all shifts, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day. Incumbents are subject to callback as necessary.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Provides leadership for the Department of athletics, including all coaching staff, administrative staff, and student athletes
Serves as a member of the University’s Senior Leadership Team
Ensures that enrollment and budgetary goals are met or exceeded annually
Serves as the University’s representative to the NAIA and athletic conference, and participates actively in those organizations
Prioritizes success in academic performance and character development for student athletes
Actively participates in the University community as well as the broader Carroll County and regional community as an ambassador for Bethel University
Partners closely with University colleagues to ensure student athletes are actively engaged in the classroom, campus, and community
Leads a “winning culture” that celebrates and highlights team and individual success
Ensures that all Athletics facilities are maintained at appropriate levels
Ensures that all of athletics works in coordination with the Office of Development to cultivate, engage and steward donors
