Summary

The Women’s Flag Football Head Coach provides leadership, vision, and day-to-day management for the new initiative at USF. The Coach oversees the recruitment, training, and development of the university’s women’s flag football program. This position is responsible for building a competitive and educationally supportive program that aligns with the mission and values of the University of Sioux Falls. The coach provides leadership, organization, and supervision of all aspects of the program.

This position is responsible for building a competitive roster, coaching student-athletes during practices and games, and supporting player retention and academic success. 

Major Functions

Coaching and Player Development 

• Run organized, safe, and effective daily practice sessions and training programs. 
• Develop game strategies, tactical play-calling, and team preparation for all competitions. 
• Supervise assistant coaches, volunteers, and support staff. 
• Prioritize the physical and mental health of student-athletes in coordination with the athletic training staff.

Recruitment and Roster Management 

• Recruit, train, and develop the women’s flag football program and all that entails to create a competitive team in this emerging NCAA sport
• Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented prospective student-athletes to an agreed upon meet roster goals 
• Coordinate campus visits, off-campus recruiting, and admissions communication. 

Academic and Student Success 

• Promote a positive team culture rooted in sportsmanship, character, and academic balance. 

Administrative and Operational Duties 

• Manage team travel arrangements, game scheduling, and equipment inventory. 
• Administer and manage the assigned program budget and coordinate fundraising efforts if applicable. 
• Ensure strict compliance with university policies, conference guidelines, and national governing body regulations (e.g., NAIA, NJCAA, or campus club protocols). 
• Comply with all USF policies and regulations, and also with outside agencies' policies and regulations, including but not limited to Title IX, NCAA, NSIC, Department of Education, Clery Act, FERPA, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Justice.  

Qualifications and Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. 
• Previous competitive flag football or tackle football coaching/playing experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level. 
• Strong organizational, leadership, and verbal communication skills. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness and ability to recruit a team of students to compete
• Ability to plan, organize, and execute practices and competitions.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
• Commitment to the mission of USF and to fostering a student-centered environment.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). 
• Ability to pass a required background check successfully per policies; willingness and ability to perform all duties associated with the position, including, but not limited to, lifting up to 30 pounds, with prolonged standing, sitting, bending, and stooping.
• Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check; ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel for away games.
